Engineering & Technology

The RRT staff holds Professional Engineers licenses and/or Contractor licenses in many states. We also maintain records at the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying for fast-tracking of additional state licensures as required. Our credentialed staff encompasses multiple disciplines.

Process Flow and Mass Balance
All recycling and waste processing projects require a firm understanding and agreement between owner and engineer regarding flow of materials into and through the proposed facility, including the actual expected outputs from each distinct handling or processing function. This requires, first of all, knowing the composition of each incoming material stream and the expected efficiency of each operation. Process flow and mass balance modeling becomes the basis for systems and site designs and for capital and operating cost modeling.

Process Engineering
Integrating the structural and electrical elements of a complete, integrated equipment system is routinely performed by RRT. We prepare detailed engineering and design documentation for each project. Every detail is carefully examined and specified. Our engineers are expert in material handling systems.

All work is performed to code and each interface point between various trades, equipment vendors and material suppliers is addressed.

Site & Building Engineering
RRT project engineers strive to determine the best solution, taking into account client requirements, existing conditions, environmental impact, and all governmental laws and regulations. The site for a processing facility or complex is arranged typically to maximize the utilization of the property while providing safe vehicle access to the recyclables and waste delivery areas and product load out areas. Traffic patterns are designed to ease traffic flow and minimize incoming and outgoing vehicles. All roadways and parking areas meet specific code requirements.

Topographic surveys are performed to establish existing grades and serve as the basis of site design. All necessary site provisions are taken to ensure proper water drainage and to prevent any soil erosion and sedimentation of adjacent property.
Building specifications are determined by many factors including process system requirements, material make-up, daily throughputs, etc. Facility aesthetics is of great importance to owners, operators, and public officials. RRT facilities conform to all Federal and local codes, as well as OSHA standards and regulations.
